Cabo is where west coast families go. From San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle or Vancouver it is a short direct flight, which changes the arithmetic of a destination wedding considerably: guests who would balk at a six-hour flight to Punta Cana will happily do two and a half hours to San Jose del Cabo.
The landscape is desert and cliff rather than palm and beach, which photographs differently and suits couples who want their wedding to look distinct. Resorts here skew more luxury and smaller than the Cancun corridor, so very large guest lists need careful property selection. Wind is a genuine planning factor for outdoor mandap setups.
Los Cabos International (SJD) takes nonstops from San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Phoenix, Dallas, Denver, Seattle, Vancouver and Calgary. Resort transfers run twenty to fifty minutes depending on whether the property is in San Jose del Cabo or Cabo San Lucas.
Baja California Sur follows the same broad civil marriage requirements as the rest of Mexico: apostilled documents, translation, blood tests in country, four witnesses. Most couples marry legally at home and hold a symbolic ceremony here.
