Our view

Hawaii is the natural answer for a west coast family that wants a destination wedding without an international flight, and it is exceptional for fusion celebrations. We planned a wedding at the Hyatt Regency in Waikiki that brought together Indian, American, Hawaiian and Chinese families: an open-air Sangeet beside the pool with a Mehndi artist, a rooftop ceremony over the ocean, and a traditional dragon dance during the reception to honour the groom's side.

Practically, Hawaii removes the visa question for US-based guests entirely and removes the passport question for US citizens. It is more expensive per room night than Mexico and the events are priced a la carte rather than all-inclusive, so the budget shape is different.

Flights and transfers

Honolulu (HNL) takes nonstops from San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, Phoenix, Dallas, Chicago, New York and Vancouver. Waikiki hotels are around twenty-five minutes from the airport.
