Flight length moves your attendance rate more than almost anything else you decide. A guest who will happily fly three hours will think twice about seven with a connection, and that difference shows up in your final headcount. When guests are departing from three or more cities, a group air contract usually beats individual bookings on both price and flexibility.
The Bay Area guest list has a distinct shape. It skews younger, it skews toward first-generation professionals whose parents are still in India, and it has the highest household incomes of any South Asian community in North America. It also has the least tolerance for a long flight: a Fremont or Sunnyvale guest who will happily fly two and a half hours to Cabo will think twice about six hours to Punta Cana with a connection.
That single fact should drive destination selection here. Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta are nonstop from SFO and SJC. Cancun is nonstop but long. Punta Cana usually is not, which is why Bay Area weddings that choose the Dominican Republic tend to see softer attendance than the couple expected.
Hawaii deserves particular attention from this market. It is a five-hour nonstop, it removes the passport and visa question entirely for US-based guests, and it works exceptionally well for fusion weddings. We planned a four-culture celebration at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki, Indian, American, Hawaiian and Chinese, with a Sangeet by the pool and a dragon dance at the reception.
